It’s For My Dual Spec!

Posted by: Kiri | Comments (2)

dual-spec-001

We have come to the start of a new era in the World of Warcraft. With the implementation of Dual Talent Specialisation, everyone can do everything that their class was made for. Mages can go down the Frost tree for some PvP, leave the Battleground, hit a button and be ready for raiding Ulduar, Frostfire build and all. Paladins can switch from healing to tanking in five seconds. Warriors can either be useful and do what they were intended for, or DPS instead. But in all of this wonder and diversity, there is a very, very serious problem lurking in the background, just waiting to destroy that decent PuG run you’ve been enjoying.

“It’s for my other spec.”

Calanthia

This, ladies and gentlemen, is Calanthia. Discipline Priest and pocket healer to Icecomet, Grim’s Fire Mage, and former male Blood Elf Korrax. That’s right, recently I spent a tenner of my hard earned money student loan, and completely reworked one of my characters. I then did it again for another one, but that’s not the focus of this article. That focus for this is more about the new lease of life you can give to your toons through the Character Recustomisation feature, and how to fit this in with your playing habits and the way you see your characters in the world of Azeroth.

Secrets of Ulduar

I don’t know about you folks, but I’m pretty excited about 3.1. Granted, since I’ve rerolled Priest and am only at level 70, I can’t take advantage of the new raid (although I might break out my Paladin for a sneak peak), but one thing I can take advantage of is the swathe of changes that have been made to my class, and of course the other classes. As we’ve said, Grim has also rerolled, bringing in his Mage, ditching his obsession with tanking for an obsession with massive numbers. He’s even gone so far as to respec Fire for levelling. Last night we were hacking up some corpses, and discussing the changes in 3.1, and the subject of Glyphs came up. I was complaining as usual about the lack of Discipline glyphs when Grim reminded me that we have a swathe of new glyphs arriving. So, filled with enthusiasm I headed onto Google and got looking for the glyphic goodness that would arrive with 3.1.

Read on after the break to see what we’re getting!

Evenin’ lads and lasses!  If you would like to peruse the image below, you will see that we have a guild who has set up residency in our Teamspeak server. We had a good 20 people or so in there the other night, and the number only increased as the night went on. Many thanks to the SNM guys for making such good and consistent use of the server.

For us here at WarAnvil, this is fantastic. It’s very heartening to see our server getting some proper use, but we want more! If your guild needs a channel, email me! If your friends guild needs a channel, email me! If you just want a channel for your 3v3 Arena Team, email me! Hell, if you register on the Teamspeak server you can create your own passworded channel, and it’ll be there permanently from that point on, so you don’t even have to talk to us at all if you just want a basic no frills channel! Remember, this is a totally FREE service we’re offering here. Your guild could have a raid ready Teamspeak channel TONIGHT.

If you want us to set up a channel, email me with the desired channel name and password. If you just want to try it out, log on and create one yourself! You can access the server by clicking the big old Teamspeak link at the top of the site. Now get in there and make some use of it!

Oh yeah, and did I mention you can email me?

New Year’s Resolutions, Warcraft Style

Black War Bear Paladin

The other day I got my Black War Bear, and I have to say, it was awesome. I’ve not really managed to break into raiding yet due to various problems with my free time not lining up with guild raiding times, not having guys to crew the raid, and so on, so I set myself a few targets over New Years. There are quite a few things on the list, and some of it is fairly unlikely to happen but everyone needs targets, right?

The Craft of War: BLIND

Posted by: Kiri | Comments (0)

Now, some may be saying that this Machinima of awesome proportions has had more than enough exposure. I disagree. I can’t get enough it. The Craft of War: BLIND is made by Percula, a new face on the scene, and, I believe, an animator by trade. His skill with animations more than shines through with BLIND; it’s a stunning piece of work.

Amazing stuff, I’m sure you’ll agree. Shout out the word, the Craft of War: BLIND is the new must see Warcraft feature.

Well guys, the WarAnvil team* has been hard at work overhauling the site. He We have been slaving away, trying various layouts, testing our graphical skills to the limit, and fighting with the new plugins all over the shop. Now though, the work is finished, and the new shiny WarAnvil is ready for action. So…

What do you think of the new site layout?

forum-hate

This rant, and I freely admit it’s a rant, is all about how much I detest seeing memes all over the forums. Yes, I know I used one in the title. I am perfectly aware of this. I’ve been aware of this for over 9000 minutes. Ok, I’ll stop.

I make sure to take a glance at the official forums every now and then, because you never know what you might get out of it. You may find the usual collection of requests for vanilla WoW servers, complaints about the game isn’t hard enough, people whining because it no longer takes a signficant chunk of your life to gain reputation with a faction that you don’t even like but they have a cool mount, or how Retribution Paladins are the most overpowered class in the game liek evar. But you could, as well, find a real gem of a topic, something funny or interesting, or even helpful.

This practice of visiting the forums however, is most likely soon to be cut short. And you know why? Lolfail is why.

Holy Paladin Heroic Healing Tips

Posted by: Kiri | Comments (3)

kiri1

Despite my previous article on the healing plate in Northrend’s Heroics, and my in game enthusiasm for getting the best of that gear, I’m afraid my luck with finding most of the items on that list has not been brilliant. Although in other ways I lucked out, so it’s not that much of a problem really! Grim and I are now at the stage of being able to pretty much chain pull our way through most of the HCs, piling through from boss to boss. We might lose a DPS or two on the way, but it’s all in the name of progress. As we steamed through Utgarde Keep today on an easy badge run, it occured to me that its only fairly recently that I was able to heal through at such a pace without running out of mana or allowing the whole group to become dirt inspection officers time after time.

So, read on after the break for my tips on the minimum requirements for healing swift Heroics!

Season 5 Arena Gash

worst-gear-set-ever1

I come to you today with a question. A burning, soul searing question, the likes of which have not been asked since times of old. That question, my friends, is thus: WHAT THE HOLY (insert own obscenity here) IS THIS GEAR?

I can’t even begin to describe the utter tripe that is the model for that sword. Likewise I struggle for words when I gave upon my miners helmet. Who would have thought that we would be playing this entire season underground? Seriously, I understand that Northrend took a hell of a lot of work, and the expansion comes before pvp of course, but… well, what the hell is this? I LONG for recoloured skins of PvE gear now. I’d have been happy if you’d reused the S1 models for the weapons. The new Shield Wall is the worst thing I’ve ever seen in WoW, it looks like a clam shell with a pair of scissors stuck to the front, and it’s about as big as well. It couldn’t protect you from a food fight, let alone a Titan’s Grip warrior thundering toward you.

I’m sorry. I really am. I never rant usually, at least not in public. But the look of this gear is so appallingly dire that I just couldn’t contain it. Do yourself a favour, PvP in Heroic gear. Save yourself the shame.
