Battle for Gilneas – Battleground Preview

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Following in the style of mmo-champion! This is the recent blue post detailing the ideas and story behind this new battleground.

When King Greymane severed ties with the Alliance after the Second War, the kingdom of Gilneas became independent from all other nations and opposing forces. Although the massive Greymane Wall protected Gilneas from outside threats, a virulent worgen curse and civil war crippled the kingdom from within. As the Cataclysm strikes and the Greymane Wall’s gates are destroyed, the people of Gilneas must come to terms with their dark curse and learn to persevere through catastrophic earthquakes and an unrelenting Forsaken invasion. The Horde recognizes this land as a strategic location with key resources to fuel the faction’s war effort against the Alliance, and Horde forces will not stop their siege until the city and its surrounding territories are under their control. To protect its lands from the Horde, the once-isolated nation of Gilneas must now work with the Alliance.

Controlling Resources
The Battle for Gilneas is a new 10 vs. 10 Battleground for level-85 players. Much like they do in Arathi Basin, teams must control strategic capture points on the map to accumulate resources. The first team to gather 2000 resources wins.

The Battle
Teams will start at opposite ends of the map with default graveyards nearby. Once the match begins, teams will race toward each other to vie for control of three strategic points; each point will allow your team to gain resources and additional graveyards. Adding to the intensity of the battle are many obstacles that block line of sight, as well as chokepoints for fending off enemy advances.

The Overlook
In the center of the map is an area known as the Overlook. Hills on either side of the map create chokepoints, while narrow paths through the hills provide teams with alternate routes. A river dividing the map will also lead opponents toward a single bridge. In some cases, dominating the Overlook might be the key to controlling the capture points.

Capture Points
In The Battle for Gilneas, three distinct resource points are available for the taking by either the Horde or the Alliance: the Mines, the Lighthouse, and the Waterworks. Once any of these points is held by a team, access to nearby graveyards will be granted. In addition, workers from the controlling faction will show up to collect the resources necessary to win the battle.

Chaos will be unleashed upon Azeroth when Deathwing returns, but many steadfast leaders will see the Cataclysm as an opportunity to further the cause of their people… or simply attain more power. The situation in Gilneas is no different. Will the embattled Gilneans be able to defend their land after realigning with the Alliance? Or will the Forsaken, reinforced by Garrosh’s Horde, seize this near-forgotten territory as a new stronghold in the Eastern Kingdoms?

Evenin’ lads and lasses!  If you would like to peruse the image below, you will see that we have a guild who has set up residency in our Teamspeak server. We had a good 20 people or so in there the other night, and the number only increased as the night went on. Many thanks to the SNM guys for making such good and consistent use of the server.

For us here at WarAnvil, this is fantastic. It’s very heartening to see our server getting some proper use, but we want more! If your guild needs a channel, email me! If your friends guild needs a channel, email me! If you just want a channel for your 3v3 Arena Team, email me! Hell, if you register on the Teamspeak server you can create your own passworded channel, and it’ll be there permanently from that point on, so you don’t even have to talk to us at all if you just want a basic no frills channel! Remember, this is a totally FREE service we’re offering here. Your guild could have a raid ready Teamspeak channel TONIGHT.

If you want us to set up a channel, email me with the desired channel name and password. If you just want to try it out, log on and create one yourself! You can access the server by clicking the big old Teamspeak link at the top of the site. Now get in there and make some use of it!

Oh yeah, and did I mention you can email me?

I’ll admit it, I’ve never played an arena match ever!  I know this is quite shocking to most people reading this, but the simple fact of the matter was, I simply was not interested in PvP.  For a long time I had been a stern die hard PvE player.  My reasons behind this stem from a lot of my past experiences.  I played eq2 for a few years at the highest level of raiding, admittedly I’ve not played wow at that same level, but I still know all the dungeons inside out.  I’ve always tanked too.  Sure I’ve had alts which I’ve messed with and in some cases I’ve even claimed to be changing my main over to them.  In the end I always come rolling back to Grim and his Warrior buddies to tank yet another instance!

But what if I look at this from a totally new perspectiveve?  What if I simply strip all my characters of everything they own and send it all to one of my alts and make him my full time main no questions asked?

I want to get into competitive PvP as its the last thing left for me in WoW, so to speak.  These are my alts:

  • 70 Paladin
  • 65 Warlock
  • 54 Mage

The rest range from level 1-10 so are not really worth mentioning, oh and I forgot the obligatory Death Knight.

I went with the Mage I’ll discuss why are the split.

I’m not going to say much here, but take a look at this Mage.  This has to be the best performance I have ever seen by one player on the arena tournament circuit.

Black War Bear Paladin

The other day I got my Black War Bear, and I have to say, it was awesome. I’ve not really managed to break into raiding yet due to various problems with my free time not lining up with guild raiding times, not having guys to crew the raid, and so on, so I set myself a few targets over New Years. There are quite a few things on the list, and some of it is fairly unlikely to happen but everyone needs targets, right?
