I’ve been using Auctioneer for months and months, well over a year now. Without any shadow of a doubt this add-on is the most popular in WoW. I can’t really think of anything else that so many players use on the sheer scale of Auctioneer. But what exactly is it used for? How can you use Auctioneer to make fairly large sums of gold?

Think of this post as a type of mini guide giving tips on how the add-on can be used. I’m not going to try and write a complete article outlining everything there is to know about Auctionner as I simply don’t know everything! The beauty of this mod is you can use it in so many ways to make money it would be almost impossible to note them all down. Please continue reading if your looking Auctioneer information!

Just what is Auctioneer?

Auctioneer is an add-on designed for World of Warcraft. This add-on takes all the information the auction house provides then sorts it and saves the data within database. The standard auction house ui is not very helpful when it comes to quickly taking the information on item prices and comparing the cheapest to the most expensive. Auctioneer however scans the auction house (hit the scan button!) saves the prices of all items into its database for future reference. The main benefit of auctioneer is the fact it will constantly update its database and over time you will have a very accurate image of your servers economy. This will allow you to quickly identify if items are overpriced, or in fact under priced so you can buy them and sell them on!

How can you make money using Auctioneer?

Let me start by saying making gold using auctionner is the easiest thing in the entire game. It takes no skill, just time and gold.

There are quite a few ways I’ve used Auctioneer to make gold. One of the best ways is to dominate entire item markets. If you for example buy the entire Runecloth market up at a time when your Auctioneer has identified the Runecloth is being undersold by most people selling it. You have the potential opportunity there to by all the Runecloth then re list it at the higher (normal price according to your Auctioneer database) price.

Another method is to monitor specific items that will appear on the auction house from time to time. Certain low level twink items can be put up for shockingly low asking prices compared to what your Auctioneer database will say. Buy these items then simply re list at the higher price, which your Auctionner will inform you of.

I don’t have a list of items at hand, but its easy enough to find out what the twink items are. Simply perform level range searches in the level brackets your looking to buy items in.

Finally you have the random item searches. Once you have scanned the auction house for around a week I’d imagine you have a pretty good picture of what your factions economy looks like. Using this data you are able to search the auction house to find items which are listed under there actual worth. Sure this will take time, but once your waiting around all day to raid or PvP it’s time you will have to spend.

Other advantages of Auctioneer

Make more money on the items you are selling. Random stuff you pickup along your travels will have at once stage or another been scanned on the auction house by Auctioneer. You can use this data to make sure your items are listed at competitive prices.

You can also use Auctionner to seek out bargain on trade good you use yourself. If your looking for some ore there’s a good chance somebody will at some point under price that item. Using Auctioneer you would be able to pounce at the opportunity and buy the materials.

Auctioneer Game!

Lets end on a fun note. If you have never used Auctioneer before then head over to here and download it. Once you have the add-on installed, make up a new character, send him/she a small amount of gold. 5-10 would be a nice start. Then start using Auctioneer to play the auction house. See what you can make within a week. I’d love to hear peoples results in the comments if you give this a try. I’ve done this before and the result have been very surprising indeed!

I hope you have found this quick guide of use, and I look forward to seeing you next time!

Grim.

QuestHelper, helps you quest believe it or not! I had never used this mod until a few days ago when I randomly decided to start a Dwarf Hunter. I have this thing for Dwarfs being the only Alliance race I can just about tolerate. Plus deep down I’ve always wanted a Hunter. The main reason for me not having used QuestHelper before is the duel monitor set-up I run. I tend to play the game on one and have Thottbot loaded on the other ready to look up quest details and stuff. Lets not clog up the front page, join meh after the break!

The Author of QuestHelper states:

QuestHelper tells you how to finish your quests in the easiest, fastest manner. It includes a database of quests, monsters, and items, telling you the exact location of that dang Perfect Satyr Horn you can’t find. It also computes the fastest path to complete all your quests – and gain experience – as quickly as possible.

This is my experience with the mod, now remember this is only low level areas that have been out for years, I believe there is a problem with some of the higher level Wrath zones, but these issues will no doubt get fixed. It was the first time I had ran the Dwarf starting zone, so I was lost – sort of. Anyway QuestHelper shows on your map the location of the quest, it also has a handy little arrow which points in the right direction. It leads you to the areas where quest objectives need to be completed but even better than that, it calculates the fastest way to complete all your active quests! All sounds to good to be true? Well its not, this mod is quite simply awesome.

Next time I come to level my main or even any of my alts I will use QuestHelper without any shadow of a doubt. For to long I’ve used Thottbot and had to use my own head to work out the best order to complete quests. If there was a league table of overall ‘best’ UI addons and mods then QuestHelper would be a contender for the number 1 spot. Well maybe number 2 as it does become some what obsolete when you no longer need to level!

Get over to Curse and download the damn thing,

Yesterday Grim and I made the shift through Icecrown to Storm Peaks, and for the first time I was actually glad that I’m a total pauper and can’t afford the epic flying skill. At 300% speed (yay for Crusader Aura), there would have been very little time to fling the camera around and take a slightly over the top number of screenshots of the mountains, and of the Lich King’s domain.

Anyway, as we we’re flying around, dodging the Proto Drakes and taking detours into massive holes in the ground with impressive sounding names, it struck me that possibly my favourite part of the expansion is the amazing scenery in Northrend, and the immersion you feel when running through it.

Going through Outland, there are some fairly impressive sights to behold. The edge of the world, for instance. The Bone Wastes. The Violet Tower. Hell, in the old world there are some pretty good tourist attractions as well. Orgrimmar looks incredible the first time you see it, as does Thunderbluff. But the problem I had with Azeroth and Outland was the static feel of things. There were plenty of views, and plently of activity, but no life.

Running through Grizzly Hills, I saw bears catching fish in their mouths. Wolves attack stags. Mustangs gallop across fields. All of it adds up to the point where you’re going through a patch of woodland and thinking “hey, this is pretty real. I feel like I’m actually here”. And that is the best thing about this expansion for me. Blizzard have a job ahead of them to beat the aesthetic of Wrath. I’m going to be very disappointed if the first thing I see in the next expansion isn’t as stunning as the great lift in Howling Fjord.

Although… has anyone else noticed how Mordor-ey Icecrown looks? It’s not a bad thing, Mordor looked awesome after all. It’ll be disappointing if I find out I can just walk into Icecrown though.

This is one of the best UI mods out there for WoW. The kind of thing everyone could use regardless of play style. Ever been flooded with /whispers? Or miss the odd whisper in the general spam of the world? I know I used to until I stumbled across this little gem. I’ve been using WIM for close to a year now and I simply cannot do without it.

I’ll give some examples below;

This one is the result of asking for people to join our Nexus PUG, now this was basically launch day so as you can guess loads of people wanted to run the instance. This is what I got……Read on after the split…..

As you can see I was effectively spammed to Hell and back with whispers. WIM sorted all the individual messages out into there own windows, so I can easily see who is trying to speak with me, I can see their class and level really quickly. This helps out a great deal when trying to respond to everyone along with finding out there class, level and location.

You can even use WIM to quickly add people to your friends list, should you desire!

This UI mod must help guild and raid leaders immensely. Myself I used to run raids while playing eq2, and it was such a pain up the arse to respond to players sending you tells (tells = whispers).

Well there’s the first post in our UI section, and i can’t really think of a better UI mod to highlight, if you want to give this add-on a go hit the download link below.
