Tell me about it, its the only class I have never ever played. The very idea of being stuck in some orrible form 90% of the time does not float this mans boat.

Finding a capable Paladin tank happens every day, finding a good Warrior tank is a special treat, I reckon.

The playing field will probably even out quite a lot with Cataclysm, although I'd be surprised if they nerf Paladin threat gen too much. Chances are that Warriors will have theirs increased. Death Knight AOE threat gen is in a good place, so they'll probably just be brought in line with whatever becomes the new standard.

Druids... I have no idea how they even generate AOE thread! Swipe isn't it? We need a Druid to get in here and explain it.

I don't think the situation is that bad, or at least not as bad as the BC days. I had such a rough time tanking back then on my Warrior it was unbelievable.

The big problem is Blizzard, if they decided to reduce tanking classes to the same level then it hardly matters what class you have chosen. I'm old school(which is the best school might I add) in my thinking.

Warrior = Best damage absorbing single target tank

Paladin = Aoe Offtank

Lets not talk about druids and Deathknights lol!

Its simply not the case tho, at this point in the expansion Paladins can cover all bases fairly easily, and generate threat like no tomorrow, making most Warriors like Kiri points out, looking bad when in fact they are damn good.

Having run as DPS on my Death Knight, the difference between Warrior and Paladin tanks are genuinely incredible. Provided I place it right, I can open with Death and Decay if a Paladin is tanking, and unload all of my diseases on the entire group in the first 5 seconds of the fight without too much risk of pulling aggro. Unholy does a lot of DPS, but a good Paladin tank can retain aggro against it with relative ease.

Warriors on the other hand... I don't dare attack anything other than the primary target until it's at half health. The Warrior could be the best tank in the world, but they simply don't have the AOE threat generation required to hold off against me unloading everything I've got onto the mobs.

It's a huge imbalance, and unfortunately can make Warrior tanks look bad when in fact they're damn good.

Great post,

I can't wait to see what they do with rage, its almost an impossible mechanic to 'normalise'. On the face of it, as the game currently stands the Warrior class is damn difficult to play to a high level. I have tanking experience with both Paladins and Warriors so I sorta know what I'm going on about here.....

Paladins can open up with all major attacks from the get go, major advantage. Threat is no issue for a paladin both aoe and single target. The rotation as Kiri points out is hardly the most dofficult thing you've ever seen either. what I'm getting at is its pretty easy to become a good Paladin tank.

Warriors on the other hand, a bad tank really sticks out. There is no other class/spec where you constantly have to keep looking at your hotbars to monitor cooldowns while bouncing around the screen tanking and watching for reactive procs!

Looking forward to the second post in this series Kiri!
